Having a fire risk assessment checklist to work from when an assessment is due ensures the process is as painless as possible for the person(s) responsible for it.
Check Ignition Sources
Electrical equipment left on overnight, kitchen appliances, areas where people may smoke and the proximity of these Ignition Sources to Combustible Materials such as paper, fabrics or packaging materials all need to be noted.
Assess Means of Escape
Means of escape from the building: Are all means of escape clearly marked and signs visible from within the area? Are all doors to exit routes opening in the correct direction? Are there any doors that are locked or blocked by items, which would prevent or hinder exit?
Test Fire Detection and Warning
Are all detectors and call points covered within the building and have all staff been informed of what to do in the event of an alarm being raised? This must be documented within the Fire Risk Assessment for a Fire Risk Assessment Milton Keynes. take a look at https://isefireproducts.co.uk/fire-risk-assessments/milton-keynes/.
Inspect Fire-Fighting Equipment
Check that all fire extinguishers are current, placed in the correct locations and that the relevant persons have the appropriate fire extinguisher for any fire type likely to occur within that area of the premises and that the relevant labels on the fire extinguishers are current and not missing.
Verify Emergency Lighting
Test the emergency lighting for your means of escape to check it will still function when the mains power fails. Check that it will cover all areas of your means of escape, particularly the stairs and final exit doors.
Keep Records Up to Date
to keep a written record of his/her findings and of the actions taken.
Completing the checklist shows what needs to be done and also provides written evidence that duties have been fulfilled.
